Thermowood Barrel Sauna for 4

More room, more warmth The HALO Comfy 225 has a wider, taller interior than conventional barrel saunas while retaining a compact length and natural design. It gives 4 people greater comfort, making it ideal for family time or relaxing with friends. Crafted from quality Thermowood, this sauna sits naturally in both a rural setting and a contemporary urban garden.

Why choose this sauna?

  1. Sustainable Thermowood: Naturally heat-treated timber without chemicals resists moisture, mould and weather exposure. It is an environmentally considerate, long-lasting material.
  2. Thoughtful dimensions: External dimensions are 227 cm (length) × 229 cm (width) × 238 cm (height). Inside, there are 196 cm-long benches and a 210 cm ceiling height, allowing more room to relax and move.
  3. Room for 4 people: Ideal for family evenings or relaxed time with friends. Everyone has ample space to sit back or lie down.
  4. For electric and wood-fired heaters: Choose the option that suits you: a wood-fired heater for an authentic sauna experience or an electric heater for everyday convenience. Use a licensed electrical professional for the electric-heater connection, and seek council and professional advice for a wood-fired installation.
  5. Fast, easy assembly: The construction is designed for efficient assembly and arrives as prepared components with clear, easy-to-follow instructions.

Spacious barrel sauna for up to four people

HCF 225 barrel sauna – compact exterior length and generous interior height

The Bloomcabin HCF 225 combines an exterior length of approximately 227 cm with a spacious sauna cabin. At around 229 cm wide and 238 cm high externally, it provides approximately 210 cm of interior height, while the benches are about 196 cm long. These proportions are the key feature of this model: despite its manageable exterior length, it offers considerably more room to stand upright than a lower barrel sauna. Up to four adults can use the HCF 225 together. This is its maximum occupancy, not an identical amount of personal space in every situation. With four people, the cabin is primarily intended for sitting together. When used alone or by two people, the bench can also allow stretching out, depending on body height and position. The HCF 225 has no anteroom; the enclosed area is entirely dedicated to the sauna cabin. Consider which matters more to you: a tall cabin with longer benches, or an additional separate area. Before ordering, compare the height of regular users, typical occupancy and preferred sitting or reclining position. This lets you assess the model for real use rather than its stated capacity alone.

Dimensions and space

HCF 225 at a glance

Up to 4 people

Up to four adults can use the cabin together. For couples, the extra space gives greater freedom when choosing a seat; depending on body height and position, the bench can also be used for stretching out. Maximum occupancy is therefore not the only consideration. Think about how many people will usually sauna at the same time, and whether you prefer sitting together or relaxing with more personal space.

Approx. 227 × 229 × 238 cm

The approximate exterior dimensions of 227 × 229 × 238 cm refer to the length, width and height of the assembled sauna. They are neither foundation dimensions nor the measurements of individual delivery parts. For an initial site check, compare each axis separately with the available space and note the narrowest point where boundaries are irregular. The precise location of the structure and its supports is then set out in the assembly instructions. Allow separate space in your site plan for door use, assembly and future care.

Approx. 210 cm interior height

With around 210 cm of interior height, this tall barrel design gives more headroom. It makes standing upright easier and means the curved ceiling does not feel as close to your head as it can in a lower barrel sauna. Taller users in particular may find this more comfortable when standing up and entering or leaving. Always consider the full exterior height as well as interior height, so sufficient clear space remains above the chosen site.

Approx. 196 cm long benches

A bench length of approximately 196 cm says more about sitting and reclining comfort than capacity alone. Compare it with your height and preferred resting position. Whether you can lie lengthways depends on your body height and posture. When several people use the sauna, the benches mainly serve as shared seating, leaving correspondingly less room to stretch out.

Timber and design

FSC®-certified thermowood for outdoor use

The HCF 225 is made from FSC®-certified thermowood. Thermal treatment reduces moisture uptake and helps the timber remain more dimensionally stable. This is beneficial for an outdoor sauna because the material faces changing weather as well as temperature and humidity differences between sauna use and cooling down. Thermowood remains a natural material, however. Variations in grain and colour, along with gradual visual change, are therefore characteristic of the timber. Thermally treated wood also needs a site with effective drainage and regular visual checks. Avoid permanently standing water, ground splashback and accumulated leaves. If you want to retain the original colour for as long as possible, use only care products expressly suitable for the timber and the relevant area. Exterior surfaces, interior walls and benches have different requirements. A product for the outer shell is not automatically suitable for surfaces that contact skin during sauna use.

The tall barrel form combines the familiar curve of a barrel sauna with considerably more headroom than a lower version. Curved walls mean the interior is used differently from a rectangular cabin: there are no vertical wall surfaces at the upper and lower edges. Do not plan shelves, furniture or later accessories from a straight dimension drawing alone. The actual clear interior space and the manufacturer’s specified fitting positions are what matter.

Heating with wood

Wood-fired heater, depending on selected specification

Depending on the chosen specification, the HCF 225 can be supplied with a wood-fired heater. This heating option suits users who want to manage the firing process and can store dry firewood. Unlike simply switching on a heat source, operation needs more preparation: load the heater according to its instructions and supervise the burn. Before ordering, check exactly which heating components belong to the selected version. Do not rely on product images for the scope of supply; use the details for the specific configuration and its assembly and operating documents.

Store dry firewood under cover and with adequate clearance from hot components. Heat-up time depends on factors including starting temperature, wood quantity, operation and the sauna climate you want, so a fixed time cannot be stated meaningfully. Follow the instructions for the heater in use when lighting, refuelling and regulating airflow instead of starting with an unnecessarily large fuel load. Never leave the fire unattended. Remove ash only once it presents no fire risk, and keep it in a suitable non-combustible container until final disposal.

The flue route, heat protection, floor beneath the heater and safety clearances must suit the heater and chimney equipment actually selected. Follow the technical requirements of the relevant manufacturers and the requirements at the installation site. Confirm these points before assembly, as later changes to a wall penetration, roof area or protective surfaces can be considerably more demanding. Do not use self-selected replacement parts for flue components or heat protection unless they are expressly specified for the system. Before first firing, check all connections, clearances and moving parts after installation. For a wood-fired sauna heater, ask the council whether building consent is needed, check any regional air-quality requirements and current local fire restrictions, and follow the manufacturer’s installation documents. The heater operating manual remains binding for fuel, operation, supervision and cleaning.

Preparing the site

Prepare the base, foundation and access carefully

The HCF 225 is wider than the HC 225. As well as available length, check clear width and the space needed for assembly and maintenance. Measure at several points where walls, fences, eaves or dense planting restrict the site. A plan view alone does not show obstacles overhead. Also allow for the door swing, a safe walking route and enough room to inspect or treat exterior surfaces later. Do not position the sauna so tightly between other structures that areas can only be reached after dismantling something. Consider branches, downpipes and irrigation equipment that could direct water onto the timber or obstruct access. Keep the route between house and sauna permanently clear; temporary stepping surfaces, loose cables and firewood stacks do not belong in the entrance area.

The ground must remain load-bearing, level and stable so the structure is supported evenly and does not become distorted. The appropriate foundation depends on the conditions of the property and the assembly requirements. Assess level, load-bearing capacity and water drainage together before installation. Rainwater must drain away from the structure so lasting moisture cannot form beneath the timber construction. Soil or vegetation should not touch timber parts directly and prevent them from drying. After heavy rain, check whether water pools or flows towards the sauna from surrounding ground. A drainage channel added later cannot correct a base that settles or carries loads unevenly. Plan the foundation and sauna together from the outset.

As the HCF 225 has no anteroom, you enter the sauna cabin directly through the exterior door. Plan a dry, sheltered place outside for bathrobes, towels, shoes and personal belongings. It should be easy to reach without blocking the door swing or exit. Firewood and heater accessories need separate, suitable storage. A secure standing surface in front of the door is also important. Slippery wet areas, loose mats, unsecured slabs and trip edges are unsuitable there. Outdoor lighting can make orientation easier after dark. It must suit the intended location and be positioned so that it does not obstruct access or assembly.

Comparing two models

HCF 225 or HC 225?

The HC 225 offers around 175 cm of interior height, is designed for two to three people and is more compact overall. It is therefore suited to anyone for whom lower capacity is sufficient and who is comfortable with a lower cabin. Taller users should note that reduced interior height has a noticeable effect on the feeling of space and on standing upright. Compare not only exterior length, but also body height, typical occupancy, preferred seating position and the width and height available at the site.

By comparison, the HCF 225 offers around 210 cm of interior height, benches approximately 196 cm long and space for up to four adults. As there is no anteroom, all additional space is dedicated to the sauna cabin. This model is particularly suitable when greater headroom and more flexible use of the benches matter more than a separate adjoining room. With fewer occupants, you can use the interior more generously; with family or guests, extra seats are available. Check, however, whether these benefits will be used in everyday life and whether the larger footprint suits your property.

If it is difficult to judge the size difference on paper, temporarily mark interior heights of around 175 and 210 cm on a wall. The marks illustrate the difference in height only and do not recreate the curved cabin form. They can nevertheless help the tallest regular users judge how relevant the extra height is for standing upright. Also lay out a 196 cm length for the HCF 225 to compare bench length directly with body height. Assess usual group occupancy separately: suitable height says nothing about how much room you want while sitting together. Only then should the available site determine the choice between the roomier HCF 225 and the more compact HC 225.

Everyday care

Caring for outdoor thermowood properly

Inspect timber surfaces in a consistent order so less visible areas are not overlooked. Start with upper exterior surfaces and work down to the lower components. Check joints, edges and areas close to the ground particularly carefully. Look for unusual distortion, opening joints, damaged areas and places that dry noticeably more slowly than their surroundings after rain. If helpful, record findings with a date and photograph so you can see at the next inspection whether the condition has changed. Do not sand or coat affected areas too quickly. First check the care guidance, as an unsuitable product or localised treatment can produce an uneven result.

Check the timber, barrel bands, screw connections, door and seals regularly. On a barrel sauna, correctly seated bands and connections help keep components in their intended position. Make adjustments only in accordance with the product documentation: overtightening can be as problematic as ignoring visibly loosened parts. The door should close freely without rubbing on the floor or frame. Keep seals clean and remove embedded dirt. Ventilate the interior after sauna use until residual moisture has escaped. Do not dry damp textiles in the closed cabin. Clean benches and frequently touched surfaces only after they have cooled, using a suitable method, and allow them to dry fully before the next heating cycle. Check joints and undersides of benches too, as moisture is less obvious there.

Use only cleaning and care products suitable for the relevant material and intended area, and follow the stated dosage. Harsh household cleaners, abrasive tools and unsuitable coatings can damage timber fibres and affect colour and skin-contact surfaces. A pressure washer is unsuitable because its concentrated jet can damage the surface and force moisture into joints. Remove loose dirt gently instead, using as little additional water as possible. Maintain the heater, chimney area and protective components solely in accordance with their respective instructions; hot components must cool completely first. Remove leaves and plant debris from the exterior without damaging timber with sharp-edged tools. Then check that the door and technical components still operate correctly and ventilation paths remain clear.

Ordering and delivery

Check the scope of supply, access and local requirements

Check the selected product configuration carefully, as the heater, controls, sauna stones, chimney components and protective elements can vary by specification. List every component needed for your intended heating solution and compare it with the expressly stated scope of supply. Accessories shown in product images are not automatically included. Also ensure that the heater, stones, flue route and protective parts form the intended system. If individual tasks need professional work or inspection, arrange this before the assembly date. Keep product documentation accessible for assembly, first commissioning and later maintenance. Sort delivered packs and fitting sets using the delivery documents before installation, retaining labels until every item is clearly identified. Check all parts for completeness and visible transport damage. Document any discrepancy in delivered condition. Clarify damaged, missing or unidentifiable components before assembly.

Before delivery, inspect the entire route from the unloading area to the installation site. Gates and narrow garden paths are not the only possible obstacles: steps, tight turns, slopes, soft ground and low branches can also complicate transport. Include places where larger components cannot be safely turned or set down. Clear the delivery route in good time and keep vehicles, garden furniture and other obstacles away. The installation site should have enough space to sort components in an orderly way and store them safely temporarily. Protect delivered timber from ground moisture and rain before assembly in accordance with the instructions. Assemble the sauna using the supplied guide. Arrange the necessary helpers, tools and specified lifting equipment before assembly begins.

Building, boundary, electrical and, where relevant, solid-fuel requirements at the site depend on the property, installation and selected heating system. Experience from another council area or differently equipped building cannot simply be transferred. Before work starts, ask the relevant council about building consent and resource consent requirements, and consult appropriate qualified professionals. For outdoor power supplies and sauna heaters, use a licensed electrical professional to assess the installation, protection, equipment suitability and certification. Do not run cables temporarily across paths or through the sauna structure without suitable planning. Include necessary clearances to boundaries, buildings and combustible areas in your site sketch. Bloomcabin HCF 225

Who is the HCF 225 for?

The HCF 225 suits you if you are looking for a tall barrel sauna for up to four people where the sauna cabin matters more than an integrated anteroom. It is especially relevant for taller users who find a lower barrel form too restrictive overhead, and for households wanting to sauna alone, as a pair or with up to four adults. At approximately 196 cm long, the benches are also useful at lower occupancy for users who may want to stretch out, depending on body height. The HCF 225 is not the best choice if the building needs an enclosed changing or storage space, or if a lower, more compact cabin already meets your needs. Choose according to comfort you will use regularly rather than occasional maximum capacity: additional interior height and extra seats are advantages only when they suit your users and their preferred position.
