Spacious barrel sauna with long interior benches for up to six adults

Bloomcabin LC 300 – spacious thermowood barrel sauna

The Bloomcabin LC 300 is a spacious outdoor sauna for families, guests and regular sauna sessions. Its body measures approximately 301 cm long and around 194 cm wide, with interior benches about 229 cm long for up to six adults. This model suits buyers who will regularly use the extra bench length without sacrificing essential access and working space at the site. Before ordering, confirm the usual group size, preferred sitting or reclining position, and the heating option that can be installed safely. Depending on the configuration, the LC 300 is available with an electric or wood-fired heater. As the electrical connection and wood-heater installation require different preparation, this decision belongs in the site plan.

Product profile

What distinguishes the LC 300

Space for up to six adults

The stated capacity refers to a fully occupied sauna. If you prefer more room between users, lay out large towels or want to change position during a session, plan for fewer people in everyday use. This helps you judge whether the LC 300 suits your usual sauna group and how comfortably the available bench space can be used.

Approximately 301 cm overall length

Garden planning involves more than the sauna’s length. Clear space is also needed for access, assembly and later inspections. At around 194 cm wide, the LC 300’s barrel shape may also suit narrower parts of a property. The doorway, work area and access route must not be restricted by walls, plants or other garden structures.

Interior benches around 229 cm long

Bench length is an important difference from more compact barrel saunas. It allows more flexible seating and, depending on body height, may permit a reclined position. Before buying, it is worthwhile marking out the length at home with a tape measure. This gives a more realistic idea of whether your preferred sitting or reclining position fits the interior.

Choice of electric or wood-fired heater

The heating type forms part of the ordered version. Decide only once it is clear which installation can be completed professionally at the intended site. Electric and wood-fired heaters differ not only in use, but also in connection or flue requirements, protective measures and ongoing care. The requirements of the specific LC 300 configuration are therefore decisive.

Materials and construction

Barrel construction in FSC®-certified thermowood

The LC 300’s heat-treated timber absorbs less moisture and is more dimensionally stable than untreated wood. This benefits an outdoor sauna, but does not replace careful site preparation or regular checks. Wood remains a natural material: variations in colour and grain, plus gradual colour change, are normal. Heat, cooling and changing humidity affect the interior, while the exterior is also exposed to weather. Water must therefore not stand permanently at the base or collect on individual surfaces. Good airflow helps the barrel construction dry. Objects, covers and dense planting should not rest directly against the outer wall and trap moisture there.

Check the barrel bands and structural connections regularly and after major weather changes. Look for even tension, loose areas and other visible changes. Adjustments must only follow the assembly and care instructions: tightening without a clear reason can be as unsuitable as ignoring a loose connection. Include support points, door movement and joints between timber elements in the inspection. If the door suddenly no longer closes freely, the construction may be standing unevenly. If there is distortion, unusual gaps or persistent dampness, identify the cause first and check the base as well. Work on load-bearing or highly heated areas belongs with a qualified professional. Do not use improvised replacement parts there.

Heating choice

Electric or wood-fired heater – choosing the right version

An electric heater provides convenient, predictable temperature control, but requires a suitable power supply at the intended location. Before ordering, ask a licensed New Zealand electrical worker to assess how the connection can be made and whether the proposed cable route is practical. The heater and controller must suit the selected LC 300 configuration; an arbitrary heating unit is not a suitable substitute. Planning should also cover electrical-component positions, a protected cable route and future access for inspection and maintenance. Extension leads or temporary garden connections are unsuitable for permanent sauna operation. People who prefer not to store fuel and want convenient heat-up control often choose the electric version. Follow the selected equipment documentation and applicable New Zealand electrical requirements for connection and operation.

With a wood-fired heater, warmth comes from a manually managed fire. Providing dry fuel, lighting the heater, monitoring the burn and later removing ash are part of regular use. Before fixing the site, ask the council and regional authority about any building-consent, air-quality and current fire-restriction requirements for the proposed appliance and location. The correct flue arrangement and the heater manufacturer's required clearances from hot components must be built into the plan. The route to fuel storage should be dry, safe and usable in winter. Wood must not obstruct sauna access, required clearances or maintenance areas. Before lighting, inspect the firebox and air paths as directed by the manufacturer. Remove ash only when completely cool and store it in a suitable container. This option suits users willing to undertake the extra operation and care.

Only equipment intended for the ordered LC 300 configuration may be installed. Protective components must not be removed or replaced with parts that merely look similar. During operation, keep the area around the heater clear of towels, sauna accessories and other combustible items. Children and anyone unable to operate the heater safely require appropriate supervision. The instructions for the heater and control unit actually supplied govern commissioning, heating, sauna infusions, shut-down and maintenance. Before first use, therefore check that all documentation for the specific equipment is available and operation is clearly understood.

Site preparation

Plan the base, drainage and access properly

The LC 300 needs a level, permanently load-bearing installation surface that supports every bearing point securely and evenly. A surface may look level yet still settle, shift or change through frost and water under load. An existing deck is not automatically suitable; its construction and load capacity should be professionally assessed beforehand. When planning, allow for the complete sauna with selected heater equipment and the future load from users. Do not level unevenness with loose timber pieces or other temporary packing. A carefully prepared base makes assembly easier, supports smooth door operation and avoids uneven loading of the barrel construction. The suitable foundation solution depends on the ground, available area and local conditions, and should be determined before delivery.

Leave sufficient clear space around the sauna for assembly, inspections and later care. Barrel bands, lower timber elements and technical components in particular must remain accessible. Too little distance from walls, fences or dense planting makes installation harder and prevents exterior surfaces from drying. The route to the door should remain safe in wet weather and must not be narrowed by stored items or firewood. Also plan how components and tools will reach the installation surface without permanently blocking other garden areas. Assess access throughout the year and in poor light; wet leaves and moisture can make paths much less safe.

Effective drainage prevents rainwater or cleaning water from remaining beneath the timber construction. The installation area should direct water away without collecting it at support points, in front of the entrance or on adjacent paths. Consider where water flows from the rest of the property after heavy rain. A lower, apparently sheltered corner may be unsuitable if moisture pools there. Roof or garden drainage must not discharge directly onto the barrel sauna. The chosen solution must also suit local requirements and actual ground conditions. After installation, check during rain to identify puddles or splashback repeatedly affecting the same timber areas. Make changes to the ground before moisture causes visible damage.

Choosing a model

LC 300 or LC 260 – which length suits better?

The LC 260 is the shorter alternative and is likewise designed for several people. Mark out the external dimensions of both models at the intended site. Keep the door area, access route and space for assembly and care clear as well. This shows whether the extra length of the LC 300 conflicts with walls, planting or other garden structures. Only once both layouts work in practice should interior use decide the choice. On a limited property, the LC 260 may preserve more circulation space; where space is sufficient, the LC 300 offers a longer usable bench area. This lets you assess not only which sauna just fits, but which solution remains easy to access and maintain over time.

Assess the LC 300 against a typical sauna session rather than an occasional full occupancy. Its interior benches, around 229 cm long, allow a regular group to spread out more flexibly; free sections can make sitting down, standing up and changing position easier. Consider not only how many people fit at once, but how much bench space your preferred seating arrangement actually uses. If large areas remain unused during normal sessions, the additional length offers little benefit. If the extra room is used regularly, it is the key advantage over the more compact alternative.

If only one model can be installed with enough clear space, the site determines the choice. If both versions fit, the bench space used day to day should decide: the LC 260 suits a lower length requirement, while the LC 300 shows its advantage only where extra bench room is regularly needed. Maximum capacity is only a guide. More important is whether the selected length suits usual occupancy without taking up unnecessary garden space.

Care and operation

Care for the interior, benches and exterior timber gently

After every sauna session, the interior must be able to air thoroughly and dry. Follow the product and heater instructions so residual moisture can escape and all intended ventilation options are used correctly. Remove damp towels, seat covers and swimwear immediately; textiles left on benches extend drying time and can encourage discolouration. During sauna use, a sufficiently large towel protects the seating surface from direct contact with sweat and skin. Once the interior has cooled, remove loose debris with a soft brush or suitable cloth. Check the undersides of benches, corners and low-level areas especially, as moisture can easily be missed there. Close the sauna for a longer period only when all surfaces are dry. Do not mask persistent odours or recurring damp areas with fragrances; instead, check ventilation, cleaning and water drainage.

UV exposure gradually changes thermowood’s colour and can cause natural greying. If you accept this development, focus exterior care on cleanliness, drying and regular inspections. To retain the warm timber colour for longer, use only a care product suitable for heat-treated exterior wood. Before use, follow the manufacturer’s instructions on preparation and possible colour effects; a test area in an unobtrusive place makes assessment easier. Care products must not affect ventilation paths, fittings, seals or technical components. Work only on dry, cool surfaces and never while the sauna is operating. Interior surfaces experience different conditions from the weather-exposed exterior, so exterior products must not be used in the sauna room without checking their suitability. The aim of care is proper timber preservation, not concealing every natural change.

For regular cleaning, use gentle methods that do not roughen the wood fibres or leave residues in the warm interior. A pressure washer is unsuitable because the powerful water jet can force moisture into joints and damage surfaces. Also avoid aggressive, abrasive or strongly perfumed products. Remove dirt as early as possible, but only after the heater and interior have cooled completely. Cleaning products must be suitable for sauna timber or the relevant component and used sparingly as directed. Different care instructions may apply to metal parts, door components and technical equipment. Before the next heat-up, all treated surfaces must be dry and free from cleaning residue. Regular visual inspection of benches, the floor area, door, barrel bands and support points helps identify changes early.

Preparing to order

Clarify configuration, delivery route and local requirements first

Check the delivery scope for the selected LC 300 version carefully. Heater, control unit, sauna stones, chimney parts and protective components may be included differently depending on the configuration. Product images do not replace a reliable parts list. Compare the order summary with the technical details and clarify before purchase which components are supplied and which work must be arranged separately. For the electric version, this particularly concerns professional preparation and completion of the connection. For the wood-fired version, plan the full flue route and all required protective measures. Do not select additional components solely by matching connection dimensions, but by confirmed suitability for the specific equipment. Also arrange tools, assembly helpers and completion of the foundation in good time, so installation is not interrupted by missing or unsuitable parts.

The delivery route does not end at the property gate. Check the entire path from the accessible unloading point to the prepared installation area. Consider driveway width, load capacity, gate openings, bends, slopes, steps, low branches, roof overhangs and other tight points. Measure critical passages rather than judging by eye alone. The transport route must suit the intended handling method and be free of loose objects. Also decide where packaging and components can stand temporarily without blocking paths or placing timber directly on damp ground. Before delivery, the installation area should be complete, accessible and checked. If lifting or transport equipment is needed, sufficient manoeuvring room must be available. Use the delivery information to clarify who is responsible for unloading and onward transport, and which aids must be ready on delivery day.

Before choosing the final location, ask the council separately whether building consent or resource consent is needed for the actual sauna, foundation, services, boundary or fire-separation conditions and stormwater arrangements. An exemption from building consent does not remove Building Code or district-plan obligations. The detailed checks depend on the site and heating type. For an electric heater, involve a licensed electrical worker early so the cable route and technical design are settled before assembly. For a wood-fired heater, check any consent, flue, fire-protection, clearance, regional air-quality and current fire-restriction requirements with the council, regional authority and a competent installer. Consider neighbouring buildings, boundaries and existing services. After installation, keep the assembly documents, heater manual and supplied-component details together for operation, care and selecting suitable replacement parts. Further guidance is available under guidance on preparing for and using outdoor saunas.

Questions about buying and use

Frequently asked questions about the Bloomcabin LC 300

Can you lie down on the long benches?

Yes, depending on your height. The interior benches are approximately 229 cm long. Mark out this measurement at home before purchase and check whether your head, feet and sauna towel fit within the usable length. Consider your preferred reclining position rather than comparing your height with the bench measurement alone. As soon as one person uses a bench lying down, the number of seats available at the same time is reduced. The statement “up to six adults” therefore describes a sauna used entirely for seating; plan for fewer people when combining sitting and reclining.

What should be checked before the first sauna session?

Assembly and technical installation must be fully complete before first use. Using the supplied documentation, check that all intended components are fitted, connections inspected and protective parts correctly installed. The door must operate freely; remove tools, packaging and assembly residue from the interior. Commission the electric version only after a licensed electrical worker has completed and checked the connection. With a wood-fired heater, the heater, flue and fire-protection measures, along with any required council approvals and regional air-quality checks, must be complete in accordance with local requirements and manufacturer instructions. Before heating, familiarise yourself with guidance on sauna stones, ventilation and operation. Watch the sauna carefully during its first use. Unusual noises, smoke where it should not appear, electrical irregularities or impaired door operation are reasons to stop and have the cause professionally assessed.
