Prepare exterior timber with VIVACOLOR Villa Protekt

A primer for outdoor wood VIVACOLOR Villa Protekt is a colourless, matt wood primer for exterior timber above ground. Use it on sawn or planed wood before applying an oil- or acrylic-based topcoat. It is also suitable for previously oil-painted surfaces and thermally modified wood. The 20 L product can be applied with a brush or by dipping.

Product details

1. For sawn and planed timber: Sawn timber is described as porous, while planed wood is smoother. Coverage varies with the surface, so check the product information when estimating how much is needed.
2. Colourless and matt: The primer is listed as colourless or transparent with a matt finish. It is a preparatory coating rather than a coloured topcoat.
3. Brush or dipping application: Apply with a brush in the direction of the wood grain, or use the dipping method. Stir the product thoroughly before use and take care to treat timber edges and end grain.
4. Prepare the surface first: Remove dust, dirt and loose paint. The timber should be clean and dry, with a wood moisture content below 20%. Apply when the air temperature is above +5°C and relative humidity is below 80%.
5. Drying and clean-up: At +23°C and 50% relative humidity, the surface is dust-dry after 12 hours; a subsequent coat can be applied after 24 hours. Remove residue from tools promptly, then clean with a suitable mineral-spirit-based solvent.
