Basil is often called the “king of herbs” – and for good reason. It’s a great source of vitamin A, easy to grow, and adds flavor to everything from pizza and pasta to salads. Basil will elevate both your cooking and your health. Long live basil – it’ll soon be thriving in your smart garden!
Plant information:
- Edible plant
- Germination time: 7–14 days
- Harvest time: after 5–12 weeks
- Optimal temperature: 18°C – 30°C
Basil isn’t limited to one plant per capsule – let them all grow! If stems reach the lamp, just trim them. Trimming prevents flowering and bitterness, but if you want your basil to flower, stop trimming and let it grow freely. Keep trimming if you want more leafy harvests.
Basil loves pruning! You can pick a few leaves here and there, but for bushier growth, it’s best to pinch the top – this encourages two new shoots within a few weeks and increases yield. Too much basil? No problem – it dries well and can be used later.
Note that basil is an annual plant and won’t last forever. If it’s been over ten weeks and the plant looks tired – it’s time to replace the capsule.
