The Aluminum Association identifies durability, corrosion resistance and high strength-to-weight ratio among the reasons aluminum has been used in building and construction for decades. Does an aluminum pergola get hot?

Yes, exposed aluminum—especially a dark powder-coated profile in strong sun—can become hot to touch. Aluminum is an excellent thermal conductor. Wood has much lower thermal conductivity and usually feels more thermally neutral when touched.
