Outdoor and garden saunas by Bloomcabin

Buy an outdoor sauna – from compact barrel saunas to spacious garden saunas with a terrace

Your own outdoor garden sauna lets you enjoy sauna sessions without depending on opening hours, travel or the season. At Bloomcabin, you can choose from different sauna models : space-saving thermowood barrel saunas, larger barrel saunas with more interior space, contemporary garden saunas with generous glazing, and the Osa 350 with clean-lined architecture and a terrace.

The models range from the especially compact S 140 barrel sauna with 1.93 m² to the spacious Osa 350 with 12.25 m². This makes it possible to find a suitable model for a smaller property or an extensively planned private wellness area. Which outdoor sauna suits you?

Which sauna suits your available space, number of users and preferences?

Three questions are especially important when choosing a garden sauna: how much permanent space is available? How many people will normally use it together? And do you prefer the traditional rounded shape of a barrel sauna or a modern outdoor sauna with straight walls and extensive glazing?

A compact model can be ideal for couples or smaller gardens. If you regularly sauna with family or friends, consider freedom of movement, bench length and convenient access as well as the footprint. On a larger property, a sauna with a terrace or relaxation area can become the centrepiece of a private wellness space.

For an initial selection, focus on available footprint, preferred layout and design.

Outdoor saunas by design and space requirement

From compact models to a spacious sauna with terrace

Comparing the range by construction style and intended use is often easier than comparing model names alone.

Compact outdoor sauna

Elma S, S 140 and HC150 are particularly suited to restricted footprints and take up only a small part of the garden.

Thermowood barrel sauna

The largest model group combines the characteristic rounded barrel form with heat-treated timber and is available in several lengths.

Modern garden sauna

Elma S, Elma L and Sana combine clean-lined architecture with timber surfaces.

Sauna with terrace

The Osa 350 combines a large sauna area with a terrace and suits generously planned garden wellness spaces.

Thermowood barrel sauna

Barrel saunas from 1.93 to 6.89 m²

Barrel saunas make up the largest part of our sauna range. Their distinctive rounded form has a natural feel and works especially well with timber decks, holiday homes, rural properties and leafy gardens. At the same time, the shape is compact and uses the interior efficiently.

Available series include S, HC, HCF, LC, LCF and N. The selection therefore extends from highly space-saving versions to longer barrel saunas with a substantially larger footprint. Interior height and layout also vary, so compare the complete dimensions rather than model length alone.

The barrel sauna with an anteroom available is the N 210 . Its separate entrance area provides room for towels and bathrobes, creating a sheltered transition between the sauna room and garden.

Even limited space can be enough for a private outdoor sauna

Anyone looking for a small garden sauna or a sauna for two people can find a suitable model even on a limited footprint. The key is choosing a sauna that suits the available space and how it will actually be used.

The S 140 has the smallest stated footprint in the range, at 1.93 m². The Elma S is a contemporary alternative for up to two people, combining compact dimensions with a large glass front and straight-lined architecture. The HC150 is also among the particularly space-saving barrel saunas, at 2.97 m².

Still allow sufficient room around the sauna for assembly, maintenance, door opening, technical connections and easy entrance access. The product footprint alone is therefore not the actual space required.

Modern outdoor sauna with glass front

Elma and Sana suit modern homes and gardens particularly well

A straight-lined garden sauna creates a very different impression from a traditional barrel sauna. Clean forms, broad glass fronts and timber surfaces can be coordinated with the home, terrace and garden.

The Elma S is designed for up to two people. The larger Elma L accommodates up to four people. Both models feature 60-mm CLT construction, thermo-aspen inside, thermo-spruce outside and a generous glass front.

The Sana is another contemporary option at 4.97 m². It suits outdoor areas where a calm, timeless form and visual coordination with the home and terrace are important.

Thermowood for outdoor saunas

The benefits of thermowood in a garden sauna

Many Bloomcabin barrel saunas use heat-treated timber. Controlled heat treatment changes the material: it absorbs less moisture, offers good dimensional stability and develops its characteristic warm colour. These qualities are especially important for an outdoor sauna exposed to changing temperatures and humidity throughout the year.

Thermowood does not mean that a sauna needs no maintenance. Exterior surfaces should be inspected regularly and treated in line with the care instructions. Sun and weather can alter the natural timber colour. To retain the original colour for as long as possible, use suitable protection and care products.

Also inspect metal bands, fixings, doors and seals regularly in accordance with the care instructions. For a thermowood garden sauna, correct installation and regular maintenance are particularly important because timber responds to moisture and temperature.

Compact or spacious?

Match sauna size to the number of users and intended use

A larger sauna is not automatically the better choice. If one or two people will mainly use it, a compact model can be entirely sufficient. For families or regular sauna sessions with friends, bench length, interior height and freedom of movement become more important.

Do not compare square metres alone. Interior heights also vary across barrel saunas: depending on the model group, they are approximately 175, 195 or 210 cm. For taller people or a more airy feeling, this difference can matter more than slightly greater exterior length.

Among the barrel saunas, HCF 300 and LCF 300 offer particularly generous space. If a large outdoor area should also form part of the sauna, consider the Osa 350 with terrace.

Sauna with or without an anteroom?

An anteroom takes up space but adds everyday comfort

A separate anteroom creates a transition between the garden and hot sauna room. Bathrobes and towels can be stored there without taking up space in the sauna cabin. This intermediate area is particularly pleasant in cold weather, as opening the exterior door does not immediately let cold air into the heated cabin.

The N 210 and larger N 250 each provide a practical entrance area. If you would rather use most of the available footprint for the sauna cabin, compare models without a separate anteroom.

Decide what matters more for everyday use: a sheltered storage and transition area, or the most spacious possible sauna cabin.

Electric heater or wood-fired stove?

Include the heating choice in site planning before ordering

Depending on the model and configuration, several barrel saunas are available with electric or wood-fired heating. An electric heater is convenient to operate and may suit a site where a registered local electrical contractor can establish a compatible, protected supply.

A wood-fired stove creates a more traditional sauna experience through the visible flame. Ask the relevant municipal building-control or fire authority about chimney, ventilation, fire clearances, heat protection and smoke restrictions, as requirements depend on location.

Check what is supplied with your selected configuration. Heater, controls, sauna stones, chimney components and protective parts may vary by selection. A registered local electrical contractor must confirm equipment compatibility and protection, inspect and test the installation, and provide any applicable Certificate of Compliance (CoC) documentation in line with the manufacturer’s instructions.

Foundation and installation site

An outdoor sauna requires a level, permanently load-bearing base

A garden sauna should not simply stand on soft or uneven ground. The base must distribute the weight of the structure, heater, equipment and users evenly. Depending on the model and property, options may include a professionally constructed concrete slab, a load-bearing paved surface, suitable point foundations or a structurally designed deck construction.

Reliable drainage is equally important. Rainwater should not collect permanently beneath the timber structure. Consider water run-off, clearance from the ground and ventilation beneath the sauna before installation.

Also check vehicle access, the unloading point and the route to the installation site. Electric saunas need a planned power supply; for wood-fired models, ask the local building-control or fire authority about chimney and fire-protection requirements. Before ordering, ask the relevant municipality about planning, building, boundary, title and heritage requirements. Further guidance is available in our guide to planning and installing outdoor saunas.

Bloomcabin Osa 350 large outdoor sauna with terrace and panoramic glass front
Sauna with terrace

Osa 350 combines sauna room and terrace in a generous wellness area

If you have sufficient room and intend the sauna to be a central garden feature, a larger solution with a terrace may be worth considering. The Osa 350 has a 12.25 m² footprint and combines contemporary styling with a panoramic full-glass front and integrated LED ambient lighting.

A terrace directly beside the sauna provides room to cool down and relax between sauna sessions. With an outdoor shower, cold-water plunge pool, loungers or a sheltered seating area, it can become a cohesive wellness zone.

For larger models like these, site planning should be especially careful: foundation, access route, technical connections, privacy, the direction of the glass front and clear space in front of the sauna all affect daily use.

Barrel sauna or modern outdoor sauna?

The two designs differ mainly in spatial feel, styling and model choice

Barrel sauna

A barrel sauna may suit you if you prefer rounded timber architecture and want a choice of different sizes and lengths. Within this style, there are compact models as well as versions with an anteroom or a particularly spacious sauna room.

Modern outdoor sauna

A modern outdoor sauna instead uses straight walls and large glazed areas. Elma, Sana and Osa can be visually combined with clean-lined homes, terraces and contemporary outdoor spaces.

Alongside technical features, design also matters. Since a garden sauna remains permanently visible, its shape, materials and proportions should suit the home and garden over the long term.

Use a garden sauna all year round

Keeping an outdoor sauna comfortable in every season

For a garden sauna used year-round , site, base, drainage, timber care, ventilation and technical installation should be coordinated from the outset.

In winter, short routes between the home and sauna are especially convenient. An anteroom can add comfort because towels and bathrobes can be stored under cover. In summer, the surroundings matter more: a shaded resting place, outdoor shower or cold-water area can make the intervals between sauna sessions far more pleasant.

During spring and autumn, inspect the timber construction regularly. Remove dirt, check fixings and ensure rainwater can drain reliably. A permanently dry, well-ventilated substructure supports long-term use of the outdoor sauna.

Always base regular inspections and care steps on the documents supplied for your selected model.

Planning a private wellness zone

Plan the access route, cooling-off area and relaxation space too

An outdoor sauna is especially comfortable in everyday use when the surrounding areas are well arranged. Create short, easy-to-walk routes between the home, sauna, shower, cooling-off area and relaxation space. Non-slip surfaces, adequate lighting and an accessible entrance are particularly helpful during darker months.

For modern saunas with a glass front, it is also worth choosing the outlook deliberately. A view into your own garden can make the interior feel more open, whereas an unfavourable orientation towards a street or neighbouring property can reduce privacy. Plants, screening elements or the sauna position itself can help create a more sheltered wellness area.

If you may later add a pergola, outdoor shower, cold-water plunge pool or further seating, allow for the required area when choosing the site. This helps connect the individual elements sensibly.

Frequently asked questions

FAQ – buying an outdoor, garden or barrel sauna

Which product details should I compare before ordering?

Compare external dimensions, interior height, floor area, construction, materials and the stated supplied items. The details for the exact model and configuration selected are always decisive.

How do I clean an outdoor sauna’s glass surfaces?

Use a cleaning product suitable for the relevant glass surface and a soft, non-abrasive cloth. Clean surfaces only once cool, and follow the model’s care instructions.

Where should towels and bathrobes be stored?

Textiles should be kept dry and away from the heater. An anteroom, where provided, is a sheltered storage area; without one, use dry storage outside the heated cabin.

Which documents should I keep after installation?

Keep the assembly and operating instructions, along with the heater and control documentation, readily available. They contain the decisive directions for commissioning, operation, ventilation and care of the selected version.

How can I tell that water is not draining properly at the site?

Standing water, permanently damp areas beneath the structure or recurring splash-water marks are clear indicators. Resolve the cause so that the timber and substructure are not exposed to lasting moisture.

What can I do about uneven colour changes in thermowood?

First check whether individual exterior surfaces receive greater sun or weather exposure. Then clean and care for all surfaces consistently in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. Natural colour changes in outdoor timber cannot, however, be fully prevented.

What should I check if a sauna door is difficult to open?

Check whether hinges or fixings are visibly loose and whether the door rubs anywhere when opened. Make adjustments only in line with the assembly and care instructions for the relevant model.

How do I clean the interior after using the sauna?

Remove damp textiles and loose items. Wipe soiled surfaces with a product suitable under the care instructions, then allow the interior to dry completely.

How can residual moisture be removed after sauna use?

After the final sauna session, allow heat and residual moisture to escape completely . Use the ventilation provisions described in the operating instructions and remove wet textiles from the interior.

What should be considered during longer breaks in use?

Remove all perishable or moisture-retaining items, clean and dry the interior, and check drainage. Take technical components out of service in accordance with their respective operating instructions.

Final check after installation

What to inspect before first use

Check the completed sauna against the assembly instructions. Doors must move freely, visible connections must be correctly fitted and designated ventilation paths must remain clear. Also check that rainwater is directed away from the structure and that the underside has sufficient ventilation.

With an electric heater, do not commission the sauna until a registered local electrical contractor has completed, inspected and tested the installation and supplied any applicable CoC documentation. For a wood-fired version, confirm the chimney, heat protection and required clearances with local building-control or fire officials. Keep operating documents accessible so the heater and controls are used correctly.

Before first use, familiarise yourself with the controls and the operation of the door and ventilation, and follow the operating instructions when heating up. If unusual noises, smells or visible changes occur, proceed in accordance with the manufacturer’s guidance. Do not make unauthorised changes to the heater, electrical installation or flue.
