Bloomcabin outdoor and garden saunas

Buy an outdoor sauna – from compact barrel saunas to spacious garden saunas with terraces

Your own outdoor garden sauna lets you enjoy sauna sessions without depending on opening hours, travel or the season. At Bloomcabin, choose from different sauna models including space-saving thermal-wood barrel saunas, larger barrel saunas with more interior room, modern garden saunas with expansive glazing, and the Osa 350 with linear architecture and a terrace.

The range extends from the especially compact S 140 barrel sauna with 1.93 m² to the spacious Osa 350 with 12.25 m². This means there is a suitable model for a smaller plot as well as a generously planned wellness area. Compare designs, sizes, materials and equipment below, or explore the complete Bloomcabin sauna range.

Which outdoor sauna suits you?

Which sauna matches your space, number of users and preferences?

Three questions matter most when choosing a garden sauna: how much permanent space is available? How many people will usually use it together? And do you prefer the traditional rounded shape of a barrel sauna or a modern outdoor sauna with straight walls and generous glazing?

A compact model can be ideal for couples or smaller gardens. If you regularly use the sauna with family or friends, consider circulation space, bench length and convenient access alongside the footprint. On a larger plot, a sauna with a terrace or relaxation area can become the centrepiece of a private wellness space.

Base your initial choice on available space, preferred layout and design.

Outdoor saunas by design and space requirement

From compact models to spacious saunas with terraces

Comparing the range by design and intended use is easier than relying on model names alone.

Compact outdoor sauna

Elma S, S 140 and HC150 are particularly suited to limited installation areas and take up only a small part of the garden.

Thermal-wood barrel sauna

The largest model group combines the characteristic rounded barrel form with heat-treated wood and is available in several lengths.

Modern garden sauna

Elma S, Elma L and Sana combine linear architecture with timber surfaces.

Sauna with terrace

The Osa 350 combines a large sauna area with a terrace and suits generously planned garden wellness spaces.

Thermal-wood barrel sauna

Barrel saunas from 1.93 to 6.89 m²

Barrel saunas make up the largest part of our sauna range. Their distinctive rounded form has a natural look and complements timber decks, holiday homes, rural properties and leafy gardens particularly well. At the same time, the shape is compact and uses interior space efficiently.

Available ranges include S, HC, HCF, LC, LCF and N. The selection spans highly space-saving versions through to longer barrel saunas with a much larger floor area. Interior height and layout also vary, so compare full dimensions rather than model length alone.

For a barrel sauna with vestibule , consider the N 210 . Its separate entrance area stores towels and robes and creates a sheltered transition between the sauna room and garden.

Even limited space can be enough for a private outdoor sauna

Anyone looking for a small garden sauna or a sauna for two people can find a suitable model even in a restricted space. The key is choosing a sauna that matches both the available area and real-life use.

The S 140 has the smallest stated footprint in the range at 1.93 m². The Elma S is a modern alternative for up to two people, pairing compact dimensions with a large glazed front and linear architecture. The HC150 is also one of the most space-saving barrel saunas, at 2.97 m².

Still allow sufficient space around the sauna for assembly, maintenance, door opening, service connections and an easily accessible entrance. The product footprint alone is not the actual space required for installation.

Modern outdoor sauna with glass front

Elma and Sana suit modern homes and gardens especially well

A linear garden sauna creates a very different impression from a traditional barrel sauna. Clean shapes, generous glass fronts and timber surfaces can be coordinated with the house, terrace and garden.

The Elma S is designed for up to two people. The larger Elma L accommodates up to four people. Both models feature 60-mm CLT construction, thermo-aspen inside, thermo-spruce outside and an expansive glazed front.

The Sana is another modern option with 4.97 m². It suits outdoor spaces where a calm, timeless form and visual harmony with the home and terrace are important.

Benefits of thermal wood for a garden sauna

Many Bloomcabin barrel saunas use heat-treated timber. Controlled heat treatment changes the material: it absorbs less moisture, offers good dimensional stability and develops its characteristic warm colour. These qualities are valuable for an outdoor sauna exposed to changing temperatures and humidity throughout the year.

Thermal wood still needs care. Inspect exterior surfaces regularly and treat them as directed. Sun and weather can change the timber's natural colour. If you want to preserve the original tone for as long as possible, use suitable protective and maintenance products.

Also check metal bands, fixings, doors and seals regularly in accordance with the care instructions. For a thermal-wood garden saunacorrect assembly and regular maintenance are especially important, as timber responds to moisture and temperature.

Compact or spacious?

Match sauna size to the number of users and intended use

A larger sauna is not automatically better. A compact model may be sufficient when mainly one or two people use it. For families or regular sessions with friends, bench length, interior height and freedom of movement become more important.

Do not compare square metres alone. Barrel sauna interior heights also differ: depending on the model group, they are approximately 175, 195 or 210 cm. For taller users or a more airy feel, this difference may matter more than a little additional external length.

Among the barrel saunas, HCF 300 and LCF 300 offer particularly generous floor area. If a spacious outdoor area is also part of your plan, consider the Osa 350 with terrace.

Sauna with or without a vestibule?

A vestibule takes up space but adds everyday comfort

A separate vestibule forms a buffer between the garden and hot sauna room. It holds robes and towels without using cabin space. In cooler weather, this transition area is especially useful because opening the outside door does not send cold air straight into the heated cabin.

The N 210 and the larger N 250 each provide a practical entrance vestibule. If you prefer to use as much of the footprint as possible for the sauna cabin, compare models without a separate vestibule.

Decide which is more important for everyday use: a protected storage and transition area, or the roomiest possible sauna cabin.

Electric heater or wood-burning stove?

Include the heating type in your site planning before ordering

Several barrel saunas can be configured with electric or wood-fired heating, depending on the model. An electric heater is convenient to operate and may suit a site where the required electrical connection can be professionally installed.

A wood-burning stove offers a more traditional sauna experience through the visible fire. Before installation, obtain site-specific advice from a perit and competent fire and flue professionals on the chimney, combustion air, heat shielding, clearances and the applicable planning route.

Check what is supplied with the chosen model and configuration. The heater, controller, sauna stones, chimney parts and protective components can vary. Follow the manufacturer's instructions and use a REWS-authorised professional whose scope covers the fixed electrical installation, testing and certification.

Foundation and installation site

An outdoor sauna needs a level, permanently load-bearing base

Do not place a garden sauna on soft or uneven ground. The base must distribute the weight of the structure, heater, equipment and users evenly. Depending on the model and site, options include a professionally built concrete slab, load-bearing paving, suitable point foundations or a structurally designed deck.

Reliable drainage is equally important. Rainwater should not collect permanently beneath the timber structure. Consider water run-off, clearance from the ground and ventilation below the sauna before assembly.

Check vehicle access, the unloading point and the route to the assembly site. Plan the supply for an electric sauna; a wood-fired model also needs site-specific flue and fire advice. Before ordering or assembly, ask a perit to confirm the Planning Authority route for the site's footprint, height, enclosure, land designation and existing permit conditions. Further guidance is available in our guide to planning and assembling outdoor saunas.

Bloomcabin Osa 350 large outdoor sauna with terrace and panoramic glass front
Sauna with terrace

Osa 350 combines sauna room and terrace in a spacious wellness area

If you have ample space and plan the sauna as a focal point of the garden, a larger solution with a terrace may be worth considering. The Osa 350 has a floor area of 12.25 m² and combines modern design with a panoramic full-glass front and integrated LED ambient lighting.

A terrace immediately beside the sauna provides room to cool down and rest between sauna sessions. With an outdoor shower, cold-water tub, loungers or sheltered seating, it can become a connected wellness zone.

For larger models, plan the site particularly carefully: foundation, access route, technical connections, privacy, viewing direction of the glazing and sufficient clear space in front of the sauna will all influence daily use.

Barrel sauna or modern outdoor sauna?

The two designs differ mainly in atmosphere, styling and model selection

Barrel sauna

Choose a barrel sauna if you favour rounded timber architecture and want to select between different sizes and lengths. This design includes compact models as well as versions with a changing room or a particularly generous sauna room.

Modern outdoor sauna

A modern outdoor sauna instead uses straight walls and broad glazed surfaces. Elma, Sana and Osa can be visually combined with linear houses, terraces and contemporary outdoor areas.

Design matters alongside the technical features. Because a garden sauna remains visible permanently, its shape, materials and proportions should suit the house and garden over the long term.

Use a garden sauna year-round

Keeping an outdoor sauna comfortable in every season

For a garden sauna used year-round site, base, drainage, timber care, ventilation and technical installation should be coordinated from the outset.

During Malta's cooler, wetter months, short routes between the home and sauna are especially convenient. A vestibule adds comfort by keeping towels and robes sheltered. In hotter weather, the surroundings matter more: a shaded resting place, outdoor shower or cold-water area can make breaks between sauna sessions more pleasant.

During spring and autumn, inspect the timber structure regularly. Remove dirt, check fixings and ensure rainwater can drain reliably. A consistently dry, well-ventilated substructure supports the long-term use of the outdoor sauna in Malta's changing seasonal conditions.

Always follow the documentation for your chosen model when carrying out regular checks and maintenance.

Plan a private wellness zone

Plan access, cooling-off space and a resting area too

An outdoor sauna is especially convenient when the surrounding areas are arranged well. Create short, easy-to-walk routes between the home, sauna, shower, cooling area and resting place. Non-slip surfaces, adequate lighting and an accessible entrance are especially helpful after dusk.

For modern saunas with a glass front, choose the viewing direction deliberately. A view into your garden can make the interior feel more open, while an unfavourable orientation towards a road or neighbouring property can reduce privacy. Plants, screening elements or the sauna position itself can help create a more sheltered wellness area.

If you may later add a pergola, outdoor shower, cold-water tub or extra seating, allow for the required area when choosing the location. This makes it easier to connect the individual elements sensibly.

Frequently asked questions

FAQ – buying an outdoor, garden or barrel sauna

Which product details should I compare before ordering?

Compare external dimensions, interior height, floor area, construction, materials and the stated delivery contents. Always rely on the specifications for the exact model and configuration selected.

How do I clean an outdoor sauna's glass surfaces?

Use a cleaner suitable for the particular glass surface and a soft, non-abrasive cloth. Clean the surfaces only after they have cooled, and follow the model's care instructions.

Where should towels and robes be stored?

Keep textiles dry and away from the heater. A vestibule provides a protected storage area; without one, use dry storage outside the heated cabin.

Which documents should I keep after assembly?

Keep the assembly manual, operating instructions and the documents for the heater and controller readily available. They contain the relevant guidance for commissioning, operation, ventilation and care of your chosen version.

How can I tell whether water is not draining properly at the site?

Standing water, persistently damp areas below the structure or recurring splash-water dirt are clear signs. Remove the cause so the timber and substructure are not continuously exposed to moisture.

What can I do about uneven colour changes in thermal wood?

First check whether individual exterior surfaces receive more sun or weather exposure. Then clean and maintain all surfaces consistently following the manufacturer guidance. Natural colour changes in outdoor timber cannot be completely avoided.

What should I check if a sauna door is difficult to open?

Check whether fittings or fixings are visibly loose and whether the door rubs anywhere when opened. Make adjustments only in accordance with the assembly and care instructions for the relevant model.

How do I clean the interior after a sauna session?

Remove damp textiles and loose items. Wipe soiled surfaces using a product permitted by the care instructions, then allow the interior to dry completely.

How can residual moisture be removed after a sauna session?

After the final sauna session, let heat and residual moisture escape completely . Use the intended ventilation options in accordance with the operating instructions and remove wet textiles from the interior.

What should I consider during longer periods without use?

Remove all perishable or moisture-retaining items, clean and dry the interior, and check drainage. Take technical components out of service in accordance with their operating instructions.

Final check after assembly

What to check before first use

Check the fully assembled sauna against the assembly manual. Doors must move freely, visible connections must be correctly completed and the intended ventilation paths must be clear. Also confirm that rainwater is directed away from the structure and that the underside remains adequately ventilated.

Commission an electric heater only after the fixed installation has been completed, tested and certified by an appropriately scoped REWS-authorised professional. For a wood-fired version, seek project-specific advice from a perit and competent fire and flue professionals on the chimney, combustion air, heat shielding, clearances and planning. Keep operating documents accessible for correct heater and controller use.

Before first use, familiarise yourself with operation and with how the door and ventilation work, and follow the operating instructions when heating up. If unusual noises, odours or visible changes occur, follow the manufacturer guidance. Do not make unauthorised changes to the heater, electrical installation or flue system.
