Bloomcabin outdoor and garden saunas

Buy an outdoor sauna – from a compact barrel sauna to a spacious garden sauna with terrace

Your own outdoor garden sauna makes it possible to enjoy sauna sessions without opening hours, travel or seasonal limits. At Bloomcabin, choose from a range of sauna models : space-saving thermowood barrel saunas, larger barrel saunas with more room inside, contemporary garden saunas with generous glazing, and the Osa 350 with clean-lined architecture and a terrace.

The collection starts with the notably compact S 140 barrel sauna at 1.93 m² and extends to the spacious Osa 350 at 12.25 m². This makes it easier to find a model for a smaller yard or a generously planned private wellness space. Compare construction, size, materials and equipment below, or browse the complete Bloomcabin sauna range.

Which outdoor sauna suits you?

Which sauna fits your available space, number of users and preferences?

Three questions help narrow down a garden sauna: How much permanent space is available? How many people will normally use it together? And do you prefer the traditional curved profile of a barrel sauna or a contemporary outdoor sauna with straight walls and broad glazing?

A compact model can be an excellent choice for couples or smaller gardens. If family and friends will use the sauna regularly, consider circulation space, bench length and easy access as well as the footprint. On a larger property, a sauna with a terrace or relaxation area can anchor a private wellness setting.

For an initial shortlist, consider available installation space, preferred layout and the style of construction you like.

Outdoor saunas by form and space requirement

From compact models to a roomy sauna with terrace

Comparing the range by construction style and intended use is often more useful than comparing model names alone.

Compact outdoor sauna

Elma S, S 140 and HC150 are well suited to limited installation areas and take up only a modest part of the garden.

Thermowood barrel sauna

The largest model group combines the familiar rounded barrel shape with heat-treated wood and is available in several lengths.

Contemporary garden sauna

Elma S, Elma L and Sana combine straight-lined architecture with wood finishes.

Sauna with terrace

The Osa 350 pairs a substantial sauna area with a terrace for generously planned garden wellness spaces.

Thermowood barrel sauna

Barrel saunas from 1.93 to 6.89 m²

Barrel saunas make up most of our sauna selection. Their distinctive rounded form has a natural character that works especially well beside timber decks, cottages, rural properties and planted gardens. It is also a compact shape that uses the interior efficiently.

Available series include S, HC, HCF, LC, LCF and N. The choice runs from especially space-conscious options to longer barrel saunas with considerably more floor area. Interior height and layout vary too, so compare the complete dimensions rather than model length alone.

For a barrel sauna with an anteroom , choose the N 210 . Its separate entrance area provides room for towels and robes, creating a sheltered transition between the sauna room and the garden.

Small sauna for garden and terrace

Even a limited area can accommodate a private outdoor sauna

Anyone looking for a small garden sauna or a sauna for two can find a suitable model on a modest footprint. The key is matching the sauna to the space available and how it will actually be used.

The S 140 has the smallest stated floor area in the range at 1.93 m². The Elma S is a modern alternative for up to two people, combining compact dimensions with a large glazed front and a clean-lined design. The HC150 is also among the particularly space-saving barrel saunas, at 2.97 m².

Allow enough clearance around the sauna for assembly, maintenance, the door swing, technical connections and a clear entrance route. The listed floor area is therefore not the same as the total installation space required.

Contemporary outdoor sauna with glazed front

Elma and Sana are particularly suited to modern homes and gardens

A straight-lined garden sauna creates a very different impression from a traditional barrel sauna. Simple forms, extensive glazing and timber surfaces can be coordinated with the home, deck and garden.

The Elma S is designed for up to two people. The larger Elma L accommodates up to four people. Both models feature 60-mm CLT construction, thermo aspen indoors, thermo spruce outside and a generous glazed front.

The Sana offers another contemporary option at 4.97 m². It suits outdoor spaces where a calm, timeless form and visual coordination with the house and deck are important.

Thermowood for outdoor saunas

Why thermowood can be beneficial in a garden sauna

Many Bloomcabin barrel saunas use heat-treated timber. The controlled thermal treatment changes the material: it absorbs less moisture, offers good dimensional stability and develops its characteristic warm colour. These qualities are valuable for an outdoor sauna exposed to changing temperatures and humidity throughout the year.

Thermowood does not mean that a sauna needs no care. Inspect exterior surfaces regularly and treat them in line with the care instructions. Sun and weather can alter the natural wood colour; suitable protection and maintenance products can help retain the original tone for longer.

Also inspect metal bands, fixings, doors and seals regularly according to the care instructions. For a thermowood sauna in the garden, proper assembly and regular care are especially important because wood responds to moisture and temperature.

Compact or spacious?

Match sauna size to the number of users and how you will use it

A larger sauna is not automatically the better choice. A compact model can be entirely sufficient when one or two people are the usual users. For families or regular sauna sessions with friends, bench length, interior height and freedom of movement become more important.

Do not judge the models by floor area alone. Approximate interior heights vary by barrel-sauna group: 175 cm, 195 cm or 210 cm. For taller users, or anyone who prefers a more open interior, that difference may matter more than a small increase in exterior length.

Within the barrel sauna range, HCF 300 and LCF 300 offer particularly generous area. If a substantial outdoor space is also part of the plan, consider the Osa 350 with terrace.

Sauna with anteroom or without?

An anteroom uses space but adds everyday convenience

A separate anteroom provides a buffer between the garden and the hot sauna room. It keeps robes and towels out of the sauna cabin, and is particularly welcome in cold weather because opening the outside door does not send cold air directly into the heated cabin.

The N 210 and larger N 250 each provide a practical entrance area. Those who would rather dedicate most of the available floor area to the sauna cabin should compare models without a separate anteroom.

Decide what matters most for daily use: a sheltered storage and transition zone, or the most spacious sauna cabin possible.

Electric heater or wood-fired heater?

Include the heating choice in site planning before ordering

Depending on model and configuration, several barrel saunas can be selected with electric or wood-fired heating. An electric heater is convenient to use where the necessary electrical connection can be professionally installed at the site.

A wood-fired heater adds the traditional appeal of a visible flame. Before choosing one, ask the municipality or other relevant local authority which permits, chimney or flue provisions, heat shielding, clearances and current fire restrictions apply at the site.

Confirm exactly what is included with the selected configuration. The heater, controls, sauna stones, chimney parts and protective components can differ by option. For an electric heater, ask a qualified local electrical contractor to verify any approval or certification required at the destination and any local notification or inspection requirements, and have the work completed according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Foundation and installation site

An outdoor sauna needs a level base capable of carrying its long-term loads

Do not treat a level-looking patch of ground as a finished base. The base must distribute the weight of the structure, heater, equipment and users evenly. Depending on the model and property, possible solutions include a professionally built concrete slab, a stable paver base, suitable point foundations or an engineered deck. Have a local designer assess the soil, foundation, drainage and site-specific snow and wind conditions.

Reliable drainage matters just as much. Rainwater should not collect beneath the timber structure. Plan water run-off, clearance from the ground and ventilation below the sauna before assembly.

Check vehicle access, the unloading point and the full route to the installation site. Plan the power supply for an electric sauna; a wood-fired version also needs chimney and fire-safety planning. Canada’s National Model Codes do not by themselves establish the rules for every site. Before ordering or assembly, identify the province or territory and municipality, then ask the relevant authorities about zoning, setbacks, permits, structural design and services. See our guide to planning and assembling outdoor saunas.

Bloomcabin Osa 350 large outdoor sauna with terrace and panoramic glazed front
Sauna with terrace

Osa 350 combines sauna room and terrace in a generous wellness space

If ample space is available and the sauna is intended as a focal point of the garden, a larger solution with a terrace is worth considering. The Osa 350 has a floor area of 12.25 m² and combines contemporary styling with a panoramic full-glass front and integrated LED ambient lighting.

A terrace directly beside the sauna provides room to cool down and rest between sessions. An outdoor shower, cold-water tub, loungers or a sheltered seat can turn it into a connected wellness zone.

Larger models need especially careful site planning: the foundation, access route, technical connections, privacy, direction of the glazed surfaces and clear space in front of the sauna all affect everyday enjoyment.

Barrel sauna or contemporary outdoor sauna?

The two styles differ mainly in spatial feel, appearance and model choice

Barrel sauna

Choose a barrel sauna if you appreciate rounded timber architecture and want a choice of lengths and sizes. This format includes compact models, versions with an anteroom and options with an especially spacious sauna room.

Contemporary outdoor sauna

A contemporary outdoor sauna instead uses straight walls and large glazed surfaces. Elma, Sana and Osa can be visually paired with clean-lined homes, decks and modern outdoor areas.

Style matters alongside technical features. As a garden sauna remains visible year-round, its form, materials and proportions should work with the house and garden for the long term.

Use a garden sauna year-round

Keeping an outdoor sauna comfortable in every season

For a garden sauna used year-round , coordinate the location, base, drainage, timber care, ventilation and technical installation from the beginning.

In winter, a short route between the house and sauna is particularly welcome. An anteroom can add comfort by keeping towels and robes protected. In summer, the surroundings become more important: a shaded rest area, outdoor shower or cold-water area can make breaks between sauna sessions more enjoyable.

Inspect the timber structure regularly in spring and fall. Remove dirt, check fixings and make sure rainwater drains reliably. A consistently dry, well-ventilated substructure supports the long-term use of an outdoor sauna.

Always follow the chosen model’s documentation for regular checks and care.

Plan a private wellness zone

Plan the access path, cooling-off area and rest space too

An outdoor sauna is most convenient when its surrounding areas are well arranged. Keep paths between the home, sauna, shower, cooling-off area and rest space short and easy to walk. Slip-resistant surfaces, sufficient lighting and an accessible entrance are especially helpful during darker months.

With modern saunas featuring a glazed front, choose the outlook deliberately. A view into your own garden can make the interior feel more open, while facing a street or neighbouring property may reduce privacy. Planting, privacy screens or sauna placement can help create a more sheltered wellness area.

If you may later add a pergola, outdoor shower, cold-water tub or extra seating, include the necessary area when choosing the site. This makes it easier to connect the elements thoughtfully.

Frequently asked questions

FAQ – buying an outdoor, garden or barrel sauna

Which product information should I compare before ordering?

Compare external dimensions, interior height, floor area, construction, materials and the listed inclusions. Always rely on the details for the exact model and configuration selected.

How do I clean the glazed surfaces of an outdoor sauna?

Use a cleaner suitable for the particular glass surface and a soft, non-abrasive cloth. Clean only after the surfaces have cooled, and follow the model’s care instructions.

Where should towels and robes be stored?

Keep textiles dry and away from the heater. An existing anteroom is a sheltered storage area; without one, use dry storage outside the heated cabin.

Which documents should I keep after assembly?

Keep the assembly manual, operating instructions and documents for the heater and controls close at hand. They contain the key directions for initial start-up, operation, ventilation and care for the selected version.

How can I tell that water is not draining properly at the site?

Standing water, persistently damp areas beneath the structure or repeated splash staining are clear signs. Correct the cause so the wood and supporting structure are not exposed to prolonged moisture.

What can I do about uneven colour changes in thermowood?

First check whether some exterior surfaces receive more sun or weather exposure. Then clean and care for all surfaces consistently according to manufacturer directions. Natural colour change in exterior wood cannot, however, be prevented completely.

What should I check if the sauna door is difficult to open?

Check whether hinges or fixings are visibly loose and whether the door rubs anywhere as it opens. Make adjustments only in accordance with the assembly and care instructions for the relevant model.

How do I clean the interior after using the sauna?

Remove damp textiles and loose items. Wipe soiled surfaces with a product permitted by the care instructions, then allow the interior to dry completely.

How can residual moisture be removed after a sauna session?

After the final sauna session, allow heat and residual moisture to escape completely . Use the intended ventilation options as described in the operating manual and remove wet textiles from the interior.

What should I consider during longer periods without use?

Remove perishable or moisture-holding items, clean and dry the interior, and check the drainage. Shut down technical components as directed in the relevant operating instructions.

Final check after assembly

What to inspect before first use

Inspect the completed sauna using the assembly manual. Doors should move freely, visible connections should be correctly completed and the intended ventilation paths must remain clear. Also check that rainwater is directed away from the structure and that the underside has adequate ventilation.

Do not commission an electric heater until a qualified local electrical contractor has completed the installation and any approval, notification or inspection steps required at the destination are complete. For a wood-fired version, confirm that the chimney or flue, heat shielding and required clearances follow the manufacturer’s instructions and requirements confirmed with the municipality or other relevant local authority. Keep the operating documents accessible so the heater and controls can be used correctly.

Before first use, become familiar with the controls and with how the door and ventilation work, and follow the operating manual when heating the sauna. If unusual sounds, odours or visible changes occur, follow the manufacturer’s directions. Do not make unauthorized alterations to the heater, electrical system or flue arrangement.
