Aluminium Greenhouse FAQs

How many size options are available for Bloomcabin aluminium greenhouses?

Bloomcabin is rapidly expanding its range, which already includes more than 20 products. Greenhouse sizes depend on the model.

For the Classic Premium greenhouse we offer the widest available floor-area range, from 3.77 to 18.84 m² with a height of 232 or 252 cm.

For gardeners and outdoor-space enthusiasts, the large Bloomcabin Orangery offers an impressive 70 m² of floor area in a distinctive form.

If you need an especially compact aluminium greenhouse solution for a balcony or patio, we recommend the Mini model with 0.74, 1.07 or 1.4 m² of floor area.

Where the intended site can accommodate a medium-sized greenhouse, the lean-to greenhouse model may be ideal. It sits elegantly against the wall of a larger building while still giving you generous space for your gardening hobby.

To see the exact sizes available for each aluminium greenhouse model open the relevant product page and check the corresponding section of the product configurator on the right-hand side of the page.

Which glazing options can be selected for Bloomcabin greenhouses?

Available glazing options may vary by aluminium greenhouse model vary. For the standard greenhouse with a classic design, we offer:

  • Polycarbonate – a popular, budget-friendly, lightweight and highly durable material with strong impact resistance. It is an excellent choice for structures exposed to changing weather conditions.
  • 4 mm toughened safety glass – especially durable, long-lasting and clear. It lets plants receive the light needed for efficient photosynthesis and healthy growth, which can support higher yields.
  • 4 mm toughened self-cleaning “Bioclean” glass – designed to repel rainwater and other dirt. Its special coating improves clarity in rainy weather, so the glass stays cleaner for longer with fewer droplet marks and deposits.
  • 4 mm toughened mirrored glass – helps improve light diffusion and temperature control inside the greenhouse. It reflects sunlight and reduces the resulting heat, making it a strong option when adapting an aluminium greenhouse as a relaxation area.
  • 4 mm toughened solar-control glass – specially coated, reflective “Stopsol” glass that effectively protects the space from sunlight and the heat it creates. It also adds privacy, although it may be less suitable for growing plants.
  • 4 mm toughened white frosted glass – an attractive way to diffuse light evenly through the greenhouse and protect plants from direct sun. Frosted glass also offers privacy and works well when combining plant growing with a relaxation area in your new greenhouse.

The configurator offers a distinctive option: choose different glazing solutions for the greenhouse roof and the sides.

For more information on each glazing type, open the configurator for the relevant product and click the explanation icon or “?”.

How long is the warranty for Bloomcabin aluminium greenhouses?

Bloomcabin takes pride in the high quality of its products and provides all aluminium greenhouses with a 12-year warranty, with its terms supplied when your order is delivered.

The warranty period and conditions are the same for every Bloomcabin aluminium greenhouse model. They set out the storage, assembly and operating requirements that must be followed for the warranty certificate to remain valid.

If you are considering changes to the greenhouse structure or its appearance, we recommend contacting our customer service team first. They can clarify how the change may affect both the structure and compliance with the warranty certificate conditions.

You can review the basic warranty terms .

Can the greenhouse glass withstand impacts from large hailstones?

As standard, the greenhouses are fitted with 4 mm, highly durable toughened safety glass. This glass is made through intensive heating followed by rapid cooling, creating internal stresses that make it up to 7 times more resistant to impacts from hail and other small objects.

Because the size and intensity of hailstones cannot be predicted, the warranty terms do not cover damage caused by this type of natural event.

For added peace of mind, Bloomcabin recommends considering greenhouse insurance through a suitable insurance provider.

What is Accoya® wood, used in Bloomcabin limited-edition design greenhouses?

Accoya® wood is exceptionally strong and durable. It is made from Radiata pine sourced from responsibly managed forests and treated using a patented, non-toxic process that modifies the timber all the way through.

This distinctive treatment makes Accoya® one of the world’s most durable woods. It is well suited to façades and exterior structures and provides a service life of at least 50 years. Accoya® uses FSC-certified timber from sustainable sources.

Because of these outstanding qualities, Bloomcabin has chosen to equip its design-series models with Accoya® design features. We are the first and only manufacturer of aluminium greenhouses to offer this kind of design solution.

What are the production and delivery times for Bloomcabin aluminium greenhouses?

Delivery times for Bloomcabin aluminium greenhouses generally range from 2 to 6 weeks, depending on the model and chosen configuration.

Adding accessories to the standard specification may affect order processing, as Bloomcabin takes a sustainable approach and does not hold accessory stock for individual requests that may remain unused.

If the planned delivery time changes because of production delays, late material deliveries or seasonal demand, you will be informed in good time and given an updated delivery date.

You will receive information about your order’s planned production and delivery schedule by email once the order has been accepted and processed.

Order processing begins when you receive the order confirmation by email.

The Bloomcabin team includes outstanding product engineers with extensive experience developing high-quality design products and structures.

Our goal is to make aluminium greenhouses of premium quality available to more customers worldwide. We therefore continue to grow steadily and introduce innovation to keep prices competitive over the long term.

What type of aluminium is used in Bloomcabin greenhouse structures?

Our greenhouses are made from aluminium profiles particularly suited to this type of structure, offering high strength and resistance to weather and other environmental influences.

Aluminium is highly corrosion-resistant, does not crack and supports the long-term stability of the greenhouse structure.

All aluminium parts are finished in the RAL colour selected by the customer. The finish is applied through a high-quality, professional powder-coating process for excellent surface quality.

The aluminium structure is joined so that the aluminium greenhouse remains exceptionally stable and durable over time.

What optional equipment and accessories are available for Bloomcabin greenhouses?

Bloomcabin aluminium greenhouses are made to each customer’s personalised specification. In the configurator, you can set the relevant parameters by selecting the options that best suit you on the right-hand side of each product page.

Any additional cost is shown for each design solution, accessory or other element. Click the “?” symbol to view an explanation of the relevant item.

The available equipment, sizes and other categories may vary by greenhouse model according to what is technically possible for that particular model.

Available choices include greenhouse size and height, roof and side-wall glazing, decorative glazing bars, 36 RAL colour shades, and greenhouse-door options, including extra doors on other sides of the greenhouse with or without a lock. Options also include decorative roof details, roof-window mechanisms, a standard roof window with manual opener, fabric curtains and an integrated chimney connection. Enquire about greenhouse assembly-service availability, location, price and timing for your greenhouse.

Are Bloomcabin greenhouses suitable for regions with heavy snowfall?

Bloomcabin aluminium greenhouses have undergone weight-load testing, which determined that the maximum permissible load caused by snow is 2.3 kN/m² .

Although the greenhouse structure and the 4 mm thick toughened-glass panes are capable of withstanding the stated load, Bloomcabin recommends clearing the greenhouse of snow regularly to help avoid any damage to or deformation of the structure.

Allowing snow and ice to accumulate over a long period may also affect the visual appearance of both polycarbonate and glass.

Are Bloomcabin greenhouses suitable for areas with strong winds?

Bloomcabin aluminium greenhouses were tested, establishing that the maximum permissible wind speed acting on the structure is 21 m/s. If wind speeds exceed this value, Bloomcabin recommends placing the greenhouse in a sheltered location or choosing a lean-to model of aluminium greenhouse instead.

Is the greenhouse delivered fully dismantled or partly assembled?

To help ensure safe transport and prevent damage to structures and components, all Bloomcabin greenhouses are delivered dismantled. Their compact, carefully planned packaging helps keep transport costs lower and makes unloading your order at the delivery address easier.

All required documentation is included with the package, and assembly instructions can be downloaded here . Necessary tools are not included.

For further clarification about greenhouse installation, please contact our customer service team.

Can the greenhouse be installed without a certified specialist?

The design of Bloomcabin greenhouses has been carefully developed in every detail so it can be assembled without a professional installer. However, to avoid errors that could affect the appearance or structural quality of the greenhouse , we recommend entrusting this work to assembly professionals. This can save you time and effort while making the creation of your dream greenhouse more enjoyable. Professionals understand the assembly requirements and have the necessary tools.

It is important to follow every step in the instructions precisely, as this may affect compliance with the conditions of the warranty certificate.

Does Bloomcabin offer greenhouse installation services in South Africa?

Installation availability, service area, price and timing must be confirmed for each project. Contact Bloomcabin to ask whether installation support is available at your address and to request an individual quotation.

If installation can be arranged, an experienced team can assemble your greenhouse efficiently and accurately, saving you time and effort.

Does an aluminium greenhouse require municipal approval?

Approval requirements for freestanding greenhouses depend on the municipality, planning scheme and details of the project.

Check with your local building-control officer before ordering. The greenhouse’s use, size, roof, enclosure, services, siting, building lines, height, title conditions and any heritage controls can matter. In Cape Town, a minor-building-work tariff classification is not an unconditional approval exemption, and the City’s approval guidance should be read alongside the applicable planning requirements.

A lean-to greenhouse or enclosed veranda may need different assessment. Contact your municipality early and confirm the approval route for your property.

Do greenhouse structures need additional treatment or painting before installation?

All aluminium components of the greenhouse arrive ready for assembly. The aluminium profiles are painted at the Bloomcabin factory, so no additional treatment is required.

When unpacking the greenhouse parts, take care not to scratch them, as this could damage the paint finish and appearance of the aluminium components. The coating protects the parts from outdoor influences throughout the use of the greenhouse.

Does the site need to be prepared before the greenhouse is installed?

Before starting assembly, make sure the chosen site provides the area required for the dimensions of the future greenhouse . The foundation beneath the structure must be firm, stable and level to prevent leaning, bending or other deformation of the structure.

Bloomcabin recommends a paved foundation to help avoid potential problems in changing weather, such as soil being washed away by rainwater or, where relevant, movement caused by frost and thawing.

Do Bloomcabin aluminium greenhouse models with a masonry base include bricks or another foundation solution?

Bricks and any other materials you choose for building the foundation are not included with the greenhouse delivery.

Important: the foundation must be built correctly, as the entire greenhouse structure is assembled on it. This directly affects not only the visual condition of the greenhouse, but also its functionality and long-term durability.

If you plan to choose a greenhouse model with a masonry base, clarify foundation-building options and the applicable local building requirements before placing your order. Ask your municipality about the approval route for your particular site and project.

What packaging is used for an aluminium greenhouse?

Each Bloomcabin aluminium greenhouse is delivered in a particularly compact, robust wooden crate.

Every component is carefully packed separately and placed in a purpose-designed crate on a pallet, helping with loading and unloading from the delivery vehicle.

The package dimensions are approximately 1 m high, 2.4 m long and 1 m deep.

Important: several notices on the packaging must be observed, including the instruction not to place other items on top of the package.

Depending on the transport arrangements of the relevant delivery provider in your area, the package may be delivered horizontally or vertically.

What are the delivery costs for Bloomcabin greenhouses?

Delivery costs are calculated during one of the final checkout steps, taking account of the delivery address and product type, including package weight and dimensions.

How should the foundation for the greenhouse installation be prepared?

For correct and safe installation of the greenhouse , prepare a level, stable foundation. Site conditions vary across South Africa, so consider local soil, drainage, seasonal rainfall and exposure when selecting the depth and materials. Seek site-specific advice if the ground may move, water may collect or the prepared base needs extra support.

A concrete foundation or purpose-made base frame is recommended for a durable, secure installation.

A concrete base is among the most durable choices. Use a concrete layer 10–15 cm thick, with a thicker perimeter edge of up to 20 cm for additional stability. Reinforce the concrete with wire or steel mesh to help limit cracking and support long-term durability. Before pouring, lay at least 10 cm of compacted, level gravel or crushed stone. Pour the concrete onto the prepared sub-base, checking that it is level and horizontal throughout. Effective drainage is equally important, so water cannot collect beneath the foundation. Concrete blocks or foundation brackets may also be used to strengthen the base. For sites with challenging soil, high rainfall or slopes, ask a suitably qualified local professional about the appropriate design.

A paved base is more flexible and suits smaller greenhouses . Lay paving 5–7 cm thick over a compacted gravel or crushed-stone layer measuring 10–15 cm. Place geotextile beneath the paving to limit weed growth and prevent the layers from mixing. A paved base drains well and is comparatively straightforward to install, but may offer less stability for larger structures. Check that the finished surface is flat, firmly compacted and sized to support the complete greenhouse footprint. Edge restraints can help keep the paving in position over time, particularly where rainfall or regular foot traffic may disturb the surface.

A timber deck can provide a base for the greenhouse , but it must be strong and weather-resistant. Timber beams should be treated against moisture and insects. Build the deck frame from sturdy timber beams, for example 5×10 cm, positioned on a stable foundation or concrete blocks. Decking boards must be suitable for outdoor use, protected against moisture and laid with small gaps for water run-off and air circulation. Keep the deck away from direct contact with soil by using foundation blocks or levelling supports, which helps reduce timber decay. Check the entire deck with a spirit level: unevenness can affect the operation of the greenhouse doors and the structure’s stability.

A gravel base is a simple, economical option. Apply a 10–15 cm layer of gravel over well-compacted ground. Lay geotextile before adding the gravel to reduce weeds and stop soil and gravel from mixing. This base offers good drainage and is easy to create, although it may be less stable for larger structures. Rake and compact the surface carefully, then confirm that it is level before assembly. Consider a defined edge to contain the gravel and maintain a neat, stable base around the greenhouse.

Recommendations for every foundation type:

Level the ground: Before building the foundation, make sure the ground surface is even, firm and stable.

Provide drainage: The foundation needs effective water run-off to prevent water collecting beneath the greenhouse .

Choose suitable materials: Select materials appropriate for the size of your aluminium greenhouse and the loads it is expected to carry.

Take local conditions into account: Choose the foundation materials and depth for the site’s soil behaviour, rainfall, drainage and possible ground movement. Before installation, ask the relevant municipality whether the project needs approval and whether any siting requirements apply.

Inspect the foundation regularly: Check its condition and make any necessary repairs to maintain the stability and safety of the greenhouse .

Caring for your aluminium greenhouse

What is Accoya® wood?

Why are Bloomcabin aluminium greenhouses available at such an affordable price?

At Bloomcabin, we know how to combine experience and advanced technology professionally. This ideal combination optimises all production processes, saves time and reduces the resources required for manufacturing. We make our entire product range ourselves, and high quality is our priority. Therefore, aluminium greenhouses are manufactured under the guidance of professional engineers, who have found the best solutions for every detail—both technical and aesthetic—allowing us to offer you a lower product price while the highest quality standards are maintained.

How should you care for and maintain an aluminium greenhouse?

Inspect the visual condition and technical components of the greenhouse regularly, so that defects, moss, leaves and other debris in gutters, on the roof and elsewhere can be identified and removed promptly.

Routine care and cleaning are especially important before and after your main local growing period, with spring and autumn serving as useful seasonal checkpoints. The greenhouse should be cleaned thoroughly by washing the frame and glass or polycarbonate panels with warm water and a mild detergent. Use a soft sponge or cloth to avoid scratching the surfaces. Do not use abrasive cleaners or pressure washers, as these can damage the coating and rubber seals.

Clear leaves and dirt from the gutters regularly to prevent standing water and damage, particularly during cold spells, when freezing water can expand and distort parts of the structure.

To avoid moisture build-up and mould, check the joints and ventilation mechanisms at least in spring and autumn.

Aluminium does not rust, but dirt and deposits can collect on it over time. Clean aluminium parts with a neutral detergent, then rinse with clean water. As the aluminium profiles are powder-coated, avoid harsh chemicals that could damage the protective finish.

Check that seals around the glass and other rubber parts are not damaged, dried out or displaced. Replace them where necessary. This helps maintain the weather-tightness of the greenhouse and retain a stable internal temperature.

Once a year, inspect the joints and make sure screws and fixings remain tight. Strong winds and temperature changes can gradually loosen them.

Where winter snow occurs in your area, remove heavy accumulations with a soft broom or snow shovel to avoid excessive load on the structure. The aluminium frame is strong, but too much weight can place the glass under stress.

Make sure vents are securely closed during wind or snow, while allowing gentle air circulation if the greenhouse is used for winter growing.

For maximum light transmission, remove dust and water deposits from the glass, particularly on hot days.

Bloomcabin recommends neutral, environmentally considerate cleaning products without acids or solvents. They help protect both the structure and your plants.

Regular care, careful structural checks and gentle cleaning help your Bloomcabin aluminiumgreenhouse retain its excellent appearance and reliable performance for many years.
